Indiana Proudly Celebrates its Gardens

On Saturday, August 18, 2012, a statewide celebration will be held to recognize gardens and gardeners and the important contribution both make to positioning Indiana as a national leader in green innovation and preservation.  Individuals, schools, garden clubs,churches and universities will host local garden parties offering attendees opportunities to tour a variety of gardens, exchange gardening knowledge and enjoy tasty treats.  In addition,gardens/gardeners will be recognized and added to Indiana’s Bicentennial Green-Legacy Leader Honor Roll.

 

“Celebrating Indiana Gardens” is the first in Sustainable Indiana 2016’s series of five annual citizen-involvement efforts to showcase Indiana’s potential to position itself as a national leader in green innovation and preservation by the state’s bicentennial in 2016.   Sustainable Indiana 2016’s state coordinator John Gibson believes gardening represents an important foundation of Indiana’s green legacy.
“Gardening fosters food security,care for the land and community connections,all of which contribute to a more sustainable future for Indiana.”

 

The effort to recognize innovative gardens and gardeners across Indiana will continue through 2016.
